Our client, an Aerospace start-up based in Barcelona, Spain are focusing on developing disruptive technologies for small satellite launch vehicles. They are searching for new team members that want to contribute in creating the next generation of launchers.

Responsibilities:

Supporting the work for the launcher recovery system. You are expected to support the work for the aeroshape development, and you must be comfortable working independently and taking independent decisions. You are expected to take the role of main authority on reentry and aerothermodynamics in the company.

The responsibilities will include, among others:

• Investigate the reentry and heating phenomena for various aeroshapes and flight envelopes, ranging from medium/low hypersonics to high supersonics.
• Optimize the lifting body / aeroshape configuration to achieve safe and stable reentry.
• Support the investigation and optimization of the flight characteristics / flying qualities, stability & controllability of flying vehicles and lifting bodies at various flight envelopes, ranging from free-molecular low hypersonic flight to atmospheric subsonic flight.
• Support vehicle concept development at overall system level.
• Support the creation of vehicle requirements.
• Perform CFD studies to classify aerodynamic parameters & characteristics at reentry & flight as well as shockwave behavior, high-speed heating phenomena etc.
• Support the development of the GNC layout including inputs for sizing, configuration and placement of aerodynamic control surfaces and other actuators, as well as placement of center of mass & aerodynamic center, optimization of aeroshape etc.
• Perform various numerical simulations to classify the vehicle’s properties at reentry.
• Estimate mechanical and thermal loads on the vehicle’s structure during reentry & flight.
• Validate the suitability of the design concept in regard to the requirements.

Requirements:

• PhD degree in aerospace engineering or related field
• 4+ years experience in aerodynamics and/or flight mechanics
• Good understanding of Flight Mechanics
• CFD experience, preferably using Ansys
• Good understanding of Suborbital and Atmospheric Flight
• Knowledge of Supersonic Flight
• Research experience in aerospace field
• Basic understanding of GNC / Control theory
• Basic understanding of Solid Mechanics
• Strong knowledge in Aerothermodynamics

Other Desired Competencies:

• Experience in working with reentry vehicles
• “Hands-on” experience with development of flying vehicles
• Capable of working in a flexible and open-minded environment
• Start-up mindset
• Creative and with experience in overcoming failure
• Fluent English
