This
includes development tests on breadboards and engineering models as well as
the definition, preparation and execution of qualification and acceptance test
campaigns at equipment level according to ECSS standards, coordination of the
activities and be the interface to the project management and the other
disciplines like system engineering, design and product assurance.
Definition of assembly, integration and test activities for free space optical
communication systems and sub-systems
Planning, organising and leading the integration and test campaigns on
unit and system level
Preparation of AIT plans and procedures
Definition of test specifications
Definition of equipment required to perform the AIT activities
Alignment of optics and verification of performance parameters
Definition and contribution to the development of automated test
environments
Preparation of test documentation
Presentation of results in internal and external reviews
Degree in Optics, Experimental-, Laser- or Applied Physics or similar with
funded background in testing of optics and optical systems.
Technical skills:
Mandatory:
Hands-on experience with optics and optical measurement techniques
Experience in measuring optical performance parameters like WFE,
transmission, polarisation, pointing, etc.
Experienced with fiber optics and fiber optical applications including
Gaussian beam optics
Familiar with analysis and data acquisition tools
Programming skills and experience with tools like MATLAB or Python

Advantageous:
Experience in development and testing of opto-electronic equipment
for space applications
Familiar with system engineering methods
Familiar with optic design tools like Zemax, Code V, ASAP, or others
Experience in the field of optical communication
Experience in environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal,
vacuum)
Experienced in vacuum technology and operation of thermal and
vacuum chambers
Experience of working in cleanroom conditions
Other skills:
Team player in a multidisciplinary environment
Good physical constitution with the requirements for working in
cleanroom and dexterity for fine alignment and assemblies
Flexible and eager to work in a multicultural group
Good command of English, both verbal and written; German or French would
be an advantage
Ideally several years of experience as Development or Test Engineer in the field
of development and testing of optical systems
40 h per week
Frequently working in lab / cleanroom environment
Occasional travel to support test campaigns at external facilities
Occasional travel to meetings and reviews with customer or suppliers
