We are looking for a candidate to join our small design team to handle the electronic and software development of our Comet water thruster and other flight electronic hardware.

You will be an instrumental member of a small team building Comet, the original water thruster. Our team in Luxembourg is small (~20 people) and will focus on the single objective of building reliable, performing, and cost-effective products for upcoming satellites, deep-space smallsats and landers. We operate following a hybrid model that aims to fuse the rapid development and commercial processes of a NewSpace company, while attaining a higher degree of quality assurance in the end product.

You would take the responsibility for the redevelopment and qualification of the electronics and software of our Comet water thruster and other electronics products.

Essential Characteristics
• Strong practical experience in electronics design, build, rework, and hardware testing
• A previous end-to-end experience delivering an electronic product from concept to production
• Decent knowledge of power and digital electronics components and design techniques
• Intermediate embedded software competences
• Some familiarity with the space environment and how to build a thing to work in space
• A positive, energetic and self-driving attitude
• Proficient English language skills

Strongly Valued Characteristics
• Understanding of space hardware quality standards and the space qualification process
• Understanding of the space environment, particularly radiation and its effects
• Any past work on any aspect of spacecraft or high-reliability electronics
• Knowledge of commercial microcontrollers and protocols (particularly UART, CAN and Ethernet)
• Experience with spacecraft propulsion and/or fluid management systems
• Advanced software and scripting development skills (C++, Assembly, Lua, Python, VBA etc)
• Build-for-test design, and hardware/software test campaign development & execution
• Build-for-manufacture design experience and supplier management
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g. ECSS & IPC)
• Ability to build and rework electronics assemblies (including SMT soldering)
• Practical experience running test campaigns (TVAC, vibration, radiation, extreme temperatures)
• Relevant CAD experience (Altium used in-house for eCAD, thermal FEA and mCAD a plus)
• A love of bullet-point lists


Key Responsibilities
• Take product ownership of the electronics of the Comet propulsion system, and other future electronic projects
• Electronic system design, schematic capture, component assessment, layout, prototyping, and qualification of flight hardware
• Specify and coordinate flight software development
• Develop and deploy automated test methods and equipment
• Setup manufacturing processes and procedures
• Prepare key documentation for team use and deliverables for stakeholders
• Deliver a performing product to manufacturing stage and support its ongoing production
• Help maintain a development workshop and tooling

Duty station
Belval Luxembourg, with occasional travel needed. Flexible working environment.
Contract Type
Full-time Luxembourg CDI.
We would usually expect candidates to have 2-5 years’ experience in relevant fields. The role is open to candidates of any age, gender, orientation, that have or can get work authorization within the EU.
