Capital International Staffing have partnered with a leading space company located at the heart of the British space industry, Harwell Campus in Oxford. We are in search of a seasoned Senior Ground Systems Engineer to spearhead our clients ground segment team.

The Role:

• Lead and actively participate in the development of ground systems, including Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, and Ground Stations Interface System.
• Derive comprehensive requirements for both the overall ground segment and specific components.
• Interface with external supplier teams, taking on roles such as Product Owner or Technical Officer, providing crucial support to the development team during the ground segment development phase.
• Embrace an Agile (SCRUM) methodology, ensuring the implementation of requirements is seamless and adheres to project schedules.
• Produce and maintain project documentation at the highest standard, including requirements, verification and validation plans, test procedures, and comprehensive test reports.
• Perform rigorous verification and validation of systems through collaboration with team members, including systems tests and simulation campaigns.
• Interface with the Mission Operations team, providing valuable support and training on ground systems.
• Execute maintenance of ground systems, acting as the key interface point between operations and developers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Maintain and troubleshoot ground segment components to support Satellite Operations, ensuring the continuous functionality of critical systems.

What You'll Bring (must haves)

• A university degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in satellite ground systems engineering.
• A minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in the space sector.
• A good knowledge of the main components of a ground segment (for example, mission control system, mission planning system) and how they interact.
• You will be a proactive team player.
• You will have excellent communication skills (required to interface with different cultures/nationalities)
• Excellent reporting skills for documentation.
• Good understanding/knowledge of space mission design/development and standard milestones.
• Good knowledge of Requirements Engineering.
• Good knowledge of system integration, verification and validation.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.


Desirable:

• Experience with Mission Control Systems, preferably based on SCOS-2000.
• Experience with Automation Systems and Mission Planning Systems.
• Experience with Ground Stations/Antenna communications.
• Knowledge of satellite operations
• Knowledge of Product life cycle
• Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS
• Experience or knowledge of Scrum as being part of development team or Product Owner.
• Knowledge of C++ and/or Java programming languages.
• Basic Linux system administration, shell scripts, make, etc.
• Development on Linux systems.
