Job description:
As AIT Manager Optical you will be responsible for the assembly and test procedures of optical instruments for space missions. Within the project framework you are tasked with the ‘on time’ and ‘on budget’ execution of AIT activities and all aspects that come with that, such as quality monitoring. For project operations, you will report to the Project Manager; for technical aspects to the System Engineer.

You will be involved from the very start of a project, including consultations with (international) clients and scientists. As AIT Manager you will judge the design and test requirements on manufacturability and feasibility. To make sure the design can be manufactured and tested properly, you will consult the designers and drafters. You will translate this into an AIT plan, which includes the selection of the (external) test facilities, the required Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and test setups. In the purchasing process of both the flight hardware and the (O)GSE you will be involved as well. Further, you will prepare the AIT phase by making procedures and arranging people and facilities.

During the integration and test phase you will be responsible for the instrument and will manage the AIT team operationally. The AIT team usually has a staff of five to ten employees - depending on the phase of the project - and consists of a range of mechanical, electrical, software and test engineers, supplemented if necessary, with optical, calibration, cleanliness, thermal and alignment specialists. These engineers and specialists report hierarchically to a team leader.

What it takes:
You have completed a technical higher or university education, supplemented with 5 years of relevant working experience with integration of optical instruments. With that you have obtained optical, mechanical, thermal and electrical knowledge, which enables you to understand specialists and estimate the (biggest) risks. You like to plan and organise things and to have interaction with different kinds of people. Besides, you have experience with the realisation of complex projects in a technical environment and with leading a project team. You can express yourself fluently in English and Dutch, both in speech and in writing.
You recognize yourself in the following profile:

• Customer-, Results- & Quality oriented
• Expertise / Analytical
• Monitoring / Planning & organising
• Collaborative / Communicative
• Leading a team
